Our client, an iconic record label is seeking a Head of Communications to coordinate press for the outstanding roster of artists for a 12 month contract.

Key responsibilities to include:

  • Raising public awareness of the diverse roster of artists through the creation and execution of national press campaigns.
  • Maximising artist promotion thorough both print and online media using music industry acumen.
  • Tailoring press plans to public demand thereby optimising artist exposure.
  • Selecting hair/makeup/stylists to suit artists.
  • Setting up press days, booking studios and hotel suites.
  • Representing the press office both internally to all departments, and externally (managers, journalists, artists).
  • Dealing with label communications, both internal and external (including staff profiles) as well as Global communications teams.
  • Overseeing daily out of house press companies, negotiating their fees and updating their contracts.
  • Driving press campaigns with the collaboration of other departments to include TV, radio and marketing.
  • Working closely with international promotions teams to secure press time for artists, and organising their pictures and biographies in a timely manner.
  • Maintaining relationships with journalists and key editors. Keeping aware of new publications that launch.
  • Collaborating with A&R to discover new signings and discuss angles for artists.
  • Working with the Creative departments to ensure optimal photos for press campaigns (attending shoots where necessary).
  • Reporting to other departments on the progress of press campaigns regularly.
  • Relaying positive information and results to other departments for further dissemination across their own contacts.
  • Managing/coaching the Senior Press Officers and Press Assistant on a daily basis.
  • Overseeing regional press companies to ensure correct coverage across regional and student press.
  • Managing departmental budget and campaign budgets.  

Key Requirements:

Essential

  • An exceptional and useful contact book with both digital and traditional press including tabloids/national magazines and broadsheets as well as online outlets essential.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • In depth knowledge of the music industry
  • Organisation and negotiation skills.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Good leadership skills, able to listen, coach, problem solve and take control of situations.
  • Good public speaking and self-presentation abilities.

Desirable

  • Team management experience, coaching in particular.
  • Good time management.
  • Adaptability and able to get on with a variety of people.
  • Persuasive, using tact and diplomacy.
  • A sense of humour, particularly with challenging journalists, bands and managers.
  • Confident and able to multi-task.
  • Passion for music, in-depth knowledge of all types of music particularly classical, crossover and pop.
