Our client, an innovative theatre company, is seeking a General Manager to lead the day-to-day operations, administration, and financial management of the company. In line with their Social Justice ethos, they are actively seeking candidates from diverse backgrounds.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing all company administrative systems and optimising them, as necessary.
  • Performing day-to-day management of the office premises, to include tenancy agreements and relevant office contracts, insurance etc.
  • Monitoring the company’s compliance to sustainability, DEI policies and privacy laws.
  • Working with company directors to prepare and monitor budgets for all company activity.
  • Supervising day-to-day bookkeeping.
  • Preparing quarterly management accounts and reconciling balance sheet and other accounting activity.
  • Implementation of all policies, with a particular focus on diversity, inclusion and access.
  • Managing the monthly payroll for salaried staff and weekly one for freelancers.
  • Working with accountants closely to support financial activity.
  • Ensuring HMRC and VAT returns are made, and compliance with statutory bodies.
  • Overseeing HR related activity such as performance reviews, company policies are up to date, best practice models and H&S regulations are adhered to.
  • Liaising with external HR consultants to oversee professional administration and recruitment.
  • Coordinating documents such as holiday log and requests, records of staff training and staff/board contact sheets.

Requirements:

  • Proven relevant experience or relevant transferable skills in office management ideally within a small creative environment.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
  • Experience of managing budgets and financial reporting, or relevant transferable skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to prioritise work effectively.
  • Excellent time management skills, working quickly and accurately.
  • Interest in theatre, experience within this sector is desirable.
  • Part-qualified/qualified in AAT/ACCA/CIMA.
  • Experience preparing management accounts, or relevant transferable skills.
  • Experience in charity accounting or relevant transferable skills desirable.
